Nintendo DS - the D is for Disney

I was talking with my sister the other day about the Nintendo DS being used as an interactive tour guide for museums. Soon it will be used at Disney World for the "Disney Magic Connection". It has maps, details on wait times at attractions, and directions to the nearest restroom and of course, the nearest ATM, which you'll need to pay for 9 dollar hot dogs.

I heard about this on the radio on the way in to work today - it sounds pretty cool. The Library of Congress is making more than 3,000 photos from two of their most popular collections available on Flickr. I looked through some of them and they are interesting. These are from this weekend, when we took the ferry to Whidbey Island, and the next day we spent the morning in Fremont.

We got some snow here last Monday. The day started out nice and dry enough, although cold, so Ryan thought he'd ride my Vespa to work.

When he left the office to come home, the weather had changed to wet snow. It was rough riding, and it seems like it was even rougher to keep his visor clear of snow and fog. He had to ride with the visor flipped open and he got all snowed up.

Last week I was making Saag Aloo (Spinach and Potatoes) from one of my favorite cookbooks, Indian Home Cooking. I started warming up the pan, but instead I turned on a burner that had my cookbook sitting on it (dumb, I know, but my kitchen layout is stupid and there is nowhere to put things.)

I turned away to start chopping some ingredients and thought "something smells, bad, like burning." It was the cookbook, I guess I shouldn't take "cook book" so literally next time.

weird stuff from the streets of Redmond

When we first moved to the Seattle area from Portland, I saw two weird things in Redmond, WA near the MS campus that let me know we were at the heart of the nerd epicenter.

The first was this - I saw a man walking down 156th ave NE using this thing - I always wondered if it was an actual thing you could buy, or if it was something this geek had rigged up.

The second wasn't quite as exciting, but still funny. A guy was waiting at the bus stop on that same street, looking kind of impatient like "Where the hell is my bus?" Then, from his jacket pocket, he produced a collapsible mini telescope and peered down the street, as if to locate the missing bus. I'm not sure why it is important to see the bus from a mile away - it's going to stop at the bus stop, you don't have to be ready to jump on to it or anything.

Of course, I've already mentioned before, though, that this is several blocks away from the Nintendo campus, where you see interesting things of another kind all the time.

Wii Fit US Launch Date Finally Announced!

I've been talking up Nintendo's upcoming Wii Fit release for what seems like ages and we finally have a US release target - Spring of this year!

Bring on the Wii Yoga!
