When people reminisce about Asbury Park, NJ their memories seem to focus on Tilly and the Carousel. But my most vivid memory of Asbury is of these swan boats. They were magical. I think there were a few different kinds of boats you could get on, and they all ran on some sort of track I think. I always hoped to get a swan boat...
It was a small package, probably no bigger than a snack-sized bag of chips. On the front it said "Super Titi 33". It was filled with white, flat disks that looked kind of like white chocolate. It was inexpensive, probably no more than a dollar, so we brought it home. To laugh at it.
Super Titi 33 sat on the counter for a few weeks and we laughed at it every time we noticed it. Then eventually, I must have put it away in a cabinet. Maybe we were having mature people over to visit. Or Indonesians. Or maybe I got tired of it being on the counter. Who knows?
So, this weekend, I was cleaning out the cabinets and I found it. I asked Ryan "Can I throw away this Super Titi 33 now?" But instead of throwing it out, Ryan decided we might as well eat it. At least give it a try, right?
"You have to COOK it" I told Ryan as I read the package. "You have to fry it in oil." This added a new level of complexity to the experiment, but Ryan decided he was up for it, and that he would cook the Super Titi 33 that evening and try it.
So, we give you, a saga in three parts - The Super Titi Chronicles. This first installment shows Ryan preparing the first batch. Enjoy.
We completed our fourth of six Basic Keelboat classes today. It was a pretty nice day for a sail. It wasn't as cloudy as it looks in this photo.
That's Ryan at the helm, our instructor Keith standing in the back, and our classmate Crystal in the foreground here.
We practiced tacking, jibing, docking and "man overboard" drills. I highly suggest STAYING ON THE BOAT if you ever go out with us. Not because of our performance in the drill - Ryan was helmsman for it, and he performed perfectly - but because the water in Puget Sound is freaking cold. It's about 55 degrees in the summer, not much warmer than it is in the winter. So seriously, you don't want to pull any kind of Deadliest Catch re-enactments.
There was a really nice rainbow this evening, so I went out on the deck to take a picture. But, I accidentally set it to movie and took a movie of the rainbow. Which is good because it was a biiiggg rainbow. Plus, you get to hear me talk stupid.
charlene charlene is fun to be around, a complete badass, and my sister. i love her for all three reasons and many, many more.
richard richard is brilliantly funny, the husband of shannon and a much better photographer than i.
shannon shannon is warm and funny and smart and has more energy and enthusiasm for learning new things than seems humanly possible.
ryan ryan is my husband and i can't think of anything to say about him here that wouldn't feel like i was just rubbing it in that i've got it good, damn good.
