Also whas Dad actually smoking in the house? So about 1976ish.

It could have been a little later - although there was a general ban on smoking in the house after Chris was born, it was often temporarily lifted when there was company. Also, Dad frequently held an unlit cigarette in his mouth for a good while before he went outside.
There are a couple of pictures in my album that say 1/1979 on them (handwritten) that come after these Thanksgiving pictures, so this was probably 1978.
